Would you rather live in San Diego or Miami?

  1. Shh, don’t talk so loudly about San Diego – too many people know about it as is

    *ahem*

    Miami, of course

  2. Lived in San Diego for 5 years. Here’s my thoughts:
    – Perfect weather year-round. It never rains either.
    – Food is amazing.
    – It’s close to LA, Vegas, Grand Canyon, many National Parks, etc.
    – You can spend time on the beaches, in the mountains, by the lake, and in the desert all in the same day.

Haven’t spent an extended time in Miami but have lived in Florida for a few years. Meh. Hurricanes were always more frequent and dangerous on the East coast than earthquakes were on the West coast. Florida doesn’t have state taxes though, so that’s a huge plus.

  3. San Diego, although I’ve never been to Miami so it might not be a fair comparison. But I have lived in San Diego and it was delightful. I’d do it again in a second.

  4. 100% San Diego. You couldn’t pay me to live in Florida.

    I like visiting Miami though.

  5. LA County resident here. If I had to move out of the LA area, I would choose to live in San Diego. It’s basically LA shrunk down to 1/6th the size; the same sort of neighborhoods, but closer to each other.

What I gather about Miami is that it can get pretty humid there. I’m not a fan of that.

Plus no worries about lodging for SDCC! I could even offer my couch to friends who want to go to Comic Con!

  6. San Diego. Food there is better. Nature is nicer too. Mountains, beaches, deserts… Miami and Florida is so damn flat.

  7. I’m pretty sure the consensus is San Diego. I don’t think this sub has ever been more united on any topic.

  8. Easily San Diego. They have the best weather in the country. Miami is way too hot and humid and they frequently get hurricanes and tropical storms.

  9. San Diego. I grew up there, moved to south FL at 24. SD has better weather, nicer people, so many museums and concerts.

  10. Having been to both many times, having family in both places, and having lived in Miami…

    San Diego 100%.

  11. San Diego, 100%. No question.

But I do like Miami. It’s Tallahassee you can have.

  12. Been to both, by far San Diego. I don’t hate Miami tho I actually like it but San Diego has more to offer for my interests and peace of mind

  13. San Diego, hands down. Miami is nice to visit, but you couldn’t pay me to live in Florida.

  14. San Diego by a long shot. It’s called “America’s Finest City” for a reason. It has a unique Mediterranean climate year round which is particularly great even by California standards. The city has the best zoo in the country, plenty of beaches, a selection of nearby theme parks to choose from, and the best Mexican food outside of Mexico (which is only half an hour away).

  15. Finally a question I am more than qualified to answer:

I live in San Diego and grew up in Miami/Broward. I love both they are both my homes. I’ll list the pros and cons of both (when counting the pros and cons of both I’m going to be talking about the metropolitan area as a whole):

    Miami Pros:
-Exponentially better nightlife. No one in the country parties like Miami does

    -Hotter women

-Less strict gun laws (can be a pro or a con depending on who you talk to)

    -no state tax

    -IMO better food

-more events there overall (music festivals, concerts, sports)

-Cheaper overall (although housing/renting has taken a huge shit there since COVID)

-Alot of universities in the tri-county area, I believe it has more than San Diego. You got FIU, UM, Broward College, Miami Dade College, FAU, Barry University

-Strong Latin Culture, especially in Miami.

-never gets cold (I fucking hate the cold)

    -great nature wise

    -warm water

    Cons

-Traffic is worse than San Diego

    -Humid

    -People are not as friendly

    -more crime

    -people drive like fucking dickheads

-flat, no hills or hiking spots

-need a car to get around, public transportation sucks

    San Diego Pros:

-Perfect weather most of the time, although it does get chilly here sometimes

-feels much more family oriented in general.

    -great Mexican/Asian food

-Mexico is a 15 minute drive away

    -great opportunities for veterans/contractors

    -great hiking spots

-there is some semblance of public transportation here

    -less traffic

    -people are friendlier

    -safer overall

    Cons:

-expensive as fuck, everything is expensive. I don’t know how anyone making under $30 an hour is living here

    -nightlife is whatever here

-ALOT of homeless people here and they have the run of the place in certain areas.

-more strict gun laws (again, depends on who you ask this is a pro or a con)

-for a large city/metropolitan area it feels like a small town. Depending on what “scene” you are a part of you are going to know everyone. This is good sometimes but other times not so much (especially when it comes to dating)

    -cold beach water

Overall, they are both great places to live. I plan on staying /saving money in San Diego for a few more years before I move back to South Florida. If you’re a party person Miami is for you. If you’re a homebody/chill on the beach kinda person San Diego is for you.
