  1. Depends how you’re trying to style your beard. If you want to grow it out but still be tamed, some beard oil or beard cream after a shower can help keep it healthy and soft, also a good bristle brush can ensure you don’t get any tangles or wild curls and I’d say once a month maybe trim off any split ends or brittle tips.

  2. Get a good pair of trimmers, Razor and a beard shampoo that smells good (I recommend anything with a mint or coconut scent since its right under your own nose), Also helps to comb your beard every morning, If you struggle with a dry or itchy beard then start using an oil or conditioner, Coconut oil is good for low budget, Otherwise do a little digging and find one you like (I recommend “The Freshest Blaze” from Beardblaze, I love that stuff).

If you’re trying to grow a fuller beard then daily washing with weekly trimming helps a lot

  3. Oil and wax, a good wooden comb and a brush. As far as shampoo, I wouldn’t worry about buying special shampoo. I just use my wife’s shampoo, and make sure to put oil and wax on those days.

My current favorite brand is Bad Ass Beard Care. Nice scents, but not overwhelming. The waxes have good hold, but doesn’t make the whiskers stiff.

If you’re beard isn’t long enough to need wax, they also make balms that’ll moisturize but isn’t quite as stiff. (The actual waxes need a guitar pick to get the wax out of the tin.)

  4. Proraso is a good brand. Many wet shavers use the brand. Stirling soap co is also a very good brand.

  5. Shampoo the beard every other day, use conditioner every day.

I’ve had a beard for over a decade now and tried countless beard-specific products. If you want a soft and clean beard, it’s pretty simple. All my friends who swore by those products eventually shaved because it was too much work to maintain. Wooden combs, special brushes, smoky sandalwood man smell balms, etc- all make having a beard into a job.

Buy nice shampoos and conditioners and all the hair you use it on will be soft, shiny, and clean.
