I know it’s obviously a tennis club, but does Centre Court get used for other events? Like concerts?

I’m in the North East, so I don’t know what happens in November and December (for example)

  1. Apart from the grass courts, the courts are used all year round by the Club members and LTA-sponsored players. The grass courts are in play from May to September (except Centre Court and other Show Courts which are used only for The Championships).

  2. They make £50 million profit from a two week event!

They don’t need to do anything for the rest of the year

  3. Used to live near there, and, yes, other events are held there, just without the mass of publicity and not always tennis.

  4. Sally Phillips said she got married there. I think she had attended some other events there too.

  5. The whole massive site doesn’t get used for much. They do hold other events there, people do use the facilities occasionally, but the usage compared to the scale of the site and the facilities is pretty tragic.

I pass by there loads and it’s typically quite dead.

On the one hand, the grass courts can’t be used too intensively.

On the other, it’s an exceptionally elitist, exclusive club. There are only a few hundred members and apart from a few former champions, most are people with ‘connections’. A few have been dedicated servants of tennis – I know someone who used to be a very good junior player who volunteers there year after year on the hope that one day she will be allowed a membership. They do let a few elite junior players in to practice on an annual basis.
