The Poppy
Lilacs or daisies.
Gardenia.
Mountain laurel
Begonias. I can plant them in the shade then give them zero maintenance and they stay in bloom all summer.
Magnolias, rhododendrons, dogwoods or hydrangea paniculata grandiflora.
If we are going with non-tree/shrub flowers, Gerbera daisies or roses. We have a really nice rose garden at my house with like 8 varieties and they are all really unique.
Also we have two really huge peonies that I quite like.
Tulips
I have a pretty serious green thumb. I take great pride in my ability to care for and grow anything.
I have a Phalaenopsis I brought back from the dead. Like yellow leaves. No buds. Roots turned to rot. Etc. It bloomed for the first time a couple weeks ago after a long long time and effort. I wept a little. Its beautiful.
I’m also a big fan of Moon Flowers. I think I have one of the northernmost garden plants in the country. You’ll almost always find them in greenhouses up here, but I consistently have a huge crop. People are always stunned to find out the success I have with them. I have some theories why I am able to grow them, but its a secret.
Salpiglossis.
Sunflowers 🌻
Irises, light purple are my favorite.
Daffodils
The lily
It’s a tie:
*Passiflora.* Over the years I’ve grown about 12 different cultivars. They don’t overwinter here, except for the native *P. incarnata,* so I like to switch them up every year.
*Brugmansia,* especially doubles and triples. My favorite cultivar is called ‘wretched mess,’ a white curly triple.
Tulips
Magnolia
Passion flower.
Jasmine. It’s a complicated love, because if Asiatic jasmine gets near a tree I like, I have to kill it or it will eventually bring down that tree. But it’s my favorite floral scent and it’s so beautiful hanging in cascades of purple behind my property. All the trees back there I don’t care about so I let the jasmine do its thing.
Lilies
I like them all! Hard to pick just one, but right now maybe it’s petunias. They’re the champions of my garden this year.
Tulips
Weed
Sunflower.
I’ve been growing them in my yard for three summers now. I like to get variety packs so I can see all the different colors–yellows, oranges, even purples. Plus, the bees *love* ’em.
This summer’s first flower bloomed earlier this week, which is a record for me. Before they wouldn’t bloom until August.
I love hydrangeas
