  1. Yeah? They also don’t just come in red.

Are disposable cups not common in other countries? What do y’all do for parties?

  2. Yes. They are disposable plastic cups. What do you use for a party with a lot of people?

  3. Of course. You can buy them at almost any grocery store in any city/town. I usually buy them when we’re having a bbq, birthday party, or some other event where it’s impractical to use the “real” dishes.

  4. Yeah, they’re called Solo Cups because they’re made by the Solo company. They’re cheap plastic cups great for parties or any event where you need, well, a lot of cheap cups. They come in colors other than red, but red just seems to be the most common color.

In fact, I might have some in my cabinet right now.

  5. Lmao yes. I love that this is so iconic to what seems like only the US. These red cups are incredibly common especially in the summertime for outdoor BBQs, campfires or house parties. They’re primarily manufactured by the SOLO company, so they’ve always gone by the name Solo Cups. [You’ll like this link](https://youtu.be/BKZqGJONH68)

  6. Do you not have red cups where you’re from? What about plates? Is anything red there?

  7. Red Solo cups. They’ve come in other colors for awhile now though.

Cheap, easy to get, a good size, and they don’t break super easily.

  8. I’m about to blow your mind op…my college’s main color was purple, so the stores in the area sold purple solo cups!

  9. Yes, they are cheap disposable cups, good for large parties where you don’t want to do the dishes or worry about breakage.

  10. Yeah, red solo cups (solo is the manufacturer) are common. They come in other colors and stuff too. You can find them easily in grocery stores, party stores, etc.

  11. Yes, but I most commonly disposable cups at parties, rather than every day usage.

  12. They’re sold in practically every grocery store and retailers like Target and Walmart across the nation, as well as drugstore chains like CVS or Walgreens (Boots / Longs). They are a convenience item only. 99% of the population relies on glass, crystal, or reusable hard plastic cups and drinking glasses on a daily basis.

  13. The term for those red cups is “Solo Cups”. If your friend asks you to bring solo cups to the party, they are asking to bring a bag disposable plastic cups that holds at least 16 ounces of liquid. The brand name or color do not matter.

  14. Yes, they’re very common. They also come in other colors, like blue. They’re in several sizes. You buy them for any large event – not just parties – where you might not have enough glass cups or don’t feel like doing tons of dishes.

  15. Wow. The rare “Do Americans really…..like in the movies” question where the answer is “yes.”

  16. I always have red solo cups in my pantry. We use them all the time at my house.

  17. Yup.

My new go-to disposal cups are Ball Aluminum though, they are like Solo cups, except they are made out of aluminum.

They are awesome, *especially* when drinking beer!

  18. Yes, we do. We often use them for parties. I held a party on the 4th, and everyone used Solo Cups because I was not about to do all those post-party dishes.

You will see red cups at basically any party where one is not trying to be fancy. We use them at BBQs, kid bday parties, college parties, high school parties, even nursing home parties. They are often seen at workplace parties accompanied by pizza. They are produced by a company called Solo and pretty much every American calls them Solo Cups. They are also the preferred cup to use during a game of beer pong or flip cup. Solo Cups transcend class, demographic, and region. Everyone uses them, except for maybe the 1%, who might turn up their noses and prefer to serve drinks in crystal (they have wait staff and chefs and cleaners, so it’s not like they have to do their own dishes). If one attends a party where drinks are served in crystal, one can generally make a very strong argument that it’s not actually a party – at least not the *fun* kind where people act like themselves and let their hair down.

  19. I’m curious as to why you think countless movies and TV shows would make the effort to create cups that don’t actually exist and typically have zero to do with the plot.
