My husband and I were just discussing the movie and he said it was too sad because the main character is so desperately lonely the whole film and the ending is so sad and the little teaser at the end that he might start a relationship with Amy Adams just doesn’t outweigh how depressing the rest of the movie was.
That’s when I realized I had a very different experience watching it. I always identified with Samantha and saw the end as uplifting because she left a relationship that limited her to go on to achieve her true potential, knowing he would still be OK (b/c Amy Adams was waiting in the wings).
I’m curious whether other women saw the film the same way?
