I honestly can’t tell if it’s because I’m lazy or not, but I’ve failed chemistry with a D, didn’t register for my AP test, procrastinating on getting my driver’s license (I have to call them to reset my password), I asked a person for their number a month ago and I still haven’t sent them even one text yet and recently I turned in my course selection form a month late due to my bad social skills (I needed a signature.)

What do I do? Please don’t say: “Just give it your best shot and jump in the water like a professional diver” because I’ve tried that so many times and it still isn’t working.

  1. I wouldnt say that you’re lazy if you know how important those tasks are for you. There must be something holding you back. Im kinda wondering what you think your horrible social skills are? Whats preventing you from doing the things that are important to you?

  2. Maybe practice doing it more for things that matter less? Get involved in something with lower stakes. Then when important things come, you’re more used to it? Join some group, volunteer, class, etc.? Otherwise maybe practice striking up conversation with strangers (safely of course) in places. Like maybe I’m shopping for clothes in the store and I’ll ask/say something about it to some mom?

For me going to library events helped the most. I was with like minded people in a safe place and practiced talking to people. It helped me make friends.

  3. You know you’re going to have to do it so, stop fucking around and do it. Delaying it just means your going to have to do it and then deal with the fallout of being late with it. For me that’s like doubleing down on stressful social interactions. That’s how I avoid the this.
