So a bit of context: My girlfriend and I were very good friends for about 2 years before dating. The relationship started almost randomly when we were hanging out 1 on 1. After that one day she invited me over and in a week it just escalated from cuddling to kissing and then to more intense things.

My female best friend and I have been friends since around ages 9/8 (now ages 15/14). There were some times where one of us would be interested in the other romantically for a period of time but nothing really came of that. I know for a fact that we currently have completely platonic feelings towards one another but I still feel kind of guilty for talking/hanging out 1 on 1 with her because we’ve liked each other in the past. This is along with the fact that a 1 on 1 hangout session was how my girlfriend and I had got together in the first place.

So I can’t really hang out with my best friend without feeling a bit guilty for it; I certainly wouldn’t feel good if, for example, my girlfriend was regularly hanging or talking with a guy she used to like.

What should I do in this situation? I love my best friend like a sister but it honestly feels wrong to hang out with her 1 on 1 and talk/text her constantly.

TLDR: My long time female best friend and I used to like each other romantically and now that I have a girlfriend it feels wrong to hang out with the best friend 1 on 1 and talk to her all the time.

  1. You should only feel guilty if your doing something wrong. Do you possibly still have feelings for your friend? How does your gf feel about your hanging out with ur friend?
