What’s the most popular soccer team in your state?

  1. Seattle Sounders FC. Soccer isn’t that big of a deal here overall though.

  2. I think David Beckham started one in Miami a few years ago, so I’m assuming it’s that one.

  3. According to our newspaper the most popular soccer team in Arizona is the Mexican national soccer team.

  4. I dont think its important enough for most people to even have a team they know let alone be a fan of.

  5. Revolution.

In my household it is the Crew.

Not that anyone really cares about soccer too much.

  6. Minnesota United (aka The Loons), although their fan base is hit or miss. Some people rank them higher than the Twins (MLB) and Wild (NHL) while others only hear about them in newspapers.

Not the same broad spectrum that requires watching Vikings or Packers games to avoid being shunned/deported, but certainly more popular than the Timberwolves (NBA) who haven’t been popular since Y2K.

  7. There are three MLS (top league) teams in my state: Austin FC, FC Dallas, and Houston Dynamo FC. The latter two teams seem to have somewhat of a local following, Austin FC is newer and I don’t really know anything about them. There’s also a pretty big contingent of soccer fans who mostly follow the good leagues rather than MLS. So, in conclusion, the most popular team in Texas is almost certainly the US national team.

  8. As in the team is located in my state? Birmingham Legion FC.

Most popular overall? Either the national team or take your pick of any of the big European teams + Atlanta United FC.

  9. University of Virginia Men’s Team–seven national championships (third highest since 1959) and highest in revenue in the state at $1.6 million.

There is a MLS team in Washington, DC–D.C. United.

  10. I couldn’t tell you a single one. I’m sure there are some scattered around but I’ve never seen anything about them and no one I regularly talk to follows the sport.

  11. I’ve seen a few Sounders shirts around Anchorage, but the Mexican National team is more popular among people I’ve met. I haven’t met anyone who is a big USMNT supporter.

  12. BAHAHA 🤣 What? Popular?! (The university associated ones are the “popular” Kentucky teams, but soccer ⚽️ just isn’t popular here that way)

  13. I think it’s the one with 6 year olds that are playing community soccer and their moms are yelling at the ref.

  14. Sporting Kansas City, but it’s not like you’re gonna regularly see people sporting their merchandise or hear folks talking about their games. Soccer is still *very* niche here.

  15. The Sounders, but in Eastern WA where I am, the teams that are watched are in other sports: the Seahawks and then very closely behind the Cougars (WSU). Mariners are the third most popular team. Other teams like Gonzaga for hoops or Idaho Vandals in other sports are popular too. But I don’t see any Sounders gear here. They are very popular in Seattle though.

  16. I guess it’d have to be the NYCFC since they won the most recent championship I guess

  17. We don’t have an MLS team, none of our college teams are nationally competitive. Soccer is very much a niche sport in Michigan.

  18. Some National team that is not the US national team I would guess, followed by Red Bull maybe?

    I have no idea.

  19. Here in the Portland area, it’s the local MLS team, the Timbers. They actually have a somewhat decent-sized fanbase, although I see a *lot* more Trailblazers gear than Timbers gear.

  20. Pennsylvania: Maybe Philadelphia Union, might also be some EPL or Liga MX team

Ohio: Probably the Crew. Columbus is really popular. Wouldn’t be shocked if by volume it was some foreign team tho.

In either state I wouldn’t define soccer as particularly popular but that’s the biggest rooting interest. Personally I’m too Yinzer to cheer for a team other than the Riverhounds but I also don’t watch a ton of club soccer. Just go to a couple of games a year.

  21. I’d have to Google for that. I don’t know any regular soccer fans other than immigrants who still follow their home teams. I know a few who watch the world cup, but that’s it.

  22. Not sure about my state but the Xoloitzcuintles from Tijuana are by far the most popular team in my area.

  23. A couple of my friends like Liverpool, but they don’t really talk soccer too much cause nobody else really cares.

  24. Probably the Columbus Crew. They’re a year or so removed from winning the league.
