I’m a white Australian man in my early-to-mid twenties.

Despite this, for years I’ve experienced complete strangers *(always women)* approach me to ask me where I am from as if they’re completely bewildered as to why I’m walking along the side streets of Australia. This has always been confusing to me as the social encounter amusingly amounts to two white Caucasian people *(one man, and one woman)* only the woman is asking the man where he is from as if she doesn’t believe I am from here.

I always respond with *’Australia’* and a confused expression on my face, as if to say, *’Well, where else would I be from?… Lol’*

And that’s when they make some mainland European comparison *(often from countries I’ve never heard of)*. The main ones tend to be Russian, Ukrainian, Czechian, or Slovenian. There are others that are more obscure…

  1. Wait your fellow australians keep asking you, an Australian, where you are from?

  2. Is there something about your appearance that maybe makes them think you’re not from Australia? Not saying that’s right, but just wondering.
