Women of Reddit: what are your experiences of getting your eyebrows microbladed?

  1. Oh boy. So, I have blonde hair and light brown eyebrows. I had them microbladed in August 2021 and they looked great for about 3 weeks. Then they almost disappeared. Went back at 6 weeks for my follow up visit which was VERY painful and had them done again. Looked great for about 3 weeks and now, not so much. My left eyebrow held zero color and my right eyebrow held some color but it looks like you took a #2 lead pencil and colored it as it’s grey. Now I spend more time trying to cover up the grey that was left behind and I would not do it again. 1.) super unhappy with the results 2.) total waste of $600 for me 3.) I have a very high pain tolerance and that 2nd visit was extremely painful and hurt worse than sitting through a 5 hour tattoo session

I know lots of people had great experiences with it but sadly, I am not one of them.

  2. I got it and loved it. I got a combo of micro blading and microshading. I’d recommend checking out the pics of past clients before selecting someone.

  3. Really interested to see peoples experience of micro blading as I have been considering getting mine done but still very undecided. Would anyone be able to confirm is micro blading kind of like tattooing them, just being a lighter and more faint pigment, as I can never seem to figure that out!

  4. I got mine done for the first time last year and just did a touchup a couple of months ago. It’s one of the most painful things I’ve gone through (worse than the tattoos I’ve gotten) but it’s so worth it. It looks great and I love not having to worry about my brows ever. It’s semipermanent, so it fades over time. I wouldn’t go cheap on it though. You can find more info on the microblading subreddit.

  5. Very positive.

My eyebrows are not even due to overplucking when I was in my teens. Doing my makeup took ages because of my brows. First got them microbladed in 2018. They looked very natural. The procedure was a bit painful and I was sporting super dark brows for a week or so, but they looked so much better after they peeled.

Got them done again this year. No complaints.

  6. One of the best things I ever did for myself. My eyebrows were light, sparse, droopy, and asymmetrical. Now they look fabulous every day.

I had them bladed in 2018 and touched up in 2019. I’d you’re in Toronto I’ll give you a few artist recommendations.

  7. I had mine done and I have mixed feelings. I went to someone who was a bit cheaper, and I didn’t know until my appointment that she was not licensed and her studio was at her home. So that made me feel weird because they’re basically tattooing you. Mine were VERY thick, dark, and blocky for at least a week after my appointment. Like it was actually ridiculous and I had to wear a hat and glasses because I was so embarrassed. They ended up looking better after that and the pigment stayed for at least 18 months. I didn’t go back for my follow up. I did like how they looked after maybe a month or two. But I would hate to go through that period again where they’re so blocky and dark.

  8. There’s a micro blade eyebrow pen where you can “fake it” to see what the possible outcome could be and like u/MadamPond said try micro shading as well. Why do you want to do microblading? did you see it first hand on someone?

  9. I got my brows tattooed last year. My brows mainly needed the tails filled in as my hair tended to be lighter and sparser there. The color looked great, but has faded over the course of the year, so I will probably get a touch-up soon. Still, they look much better now than they did previously.

  10. I love mine. I’d recommend really investigating the person you choose to do them. Also, be prepared to need more frequent (8 -12 month) touch-ups if you’re extremely oily-skinned like me.

  11. One of my sisters does microblading and did all of my other sisters brows for free when she first began.
I’ve seen the recovery process which can take a week or so to fully “scab and peel off” to reveal the completed work. It’s kinda funny everyone has done brows all the time now haha. I think they all like it and it looks like you did your brows. There are various types if you want them to look more faded or more just to fill in some spots. microblading vs powder brows

It’s kinda expensive imo (sister has charged arounf $250-450 for brows before iirc), but seems like the convenience is the pay off. I don’t wear any makeup or do my brows so I never got it done. One thing I heard from my sisters is that in the beginning it may seem too dark, but as time goes on it will fade to a more subtle tone.

I think you usually have to do touch ups every 3 or so months if you want to keep them like new, but it’s been over 6 months now and some sisters didn’t get touch ups and their brows still look pretty done.

Look up brow artists near you on their instagram or facebook and check out their work. My sister always takes before and after photos. some brow artists have their own styles that might suit you better than others.

Also, lived in south korea for a bit and even guys got their eyebrows microbladed quite regularly. But there, it’s more common for men to wear makeup/foundation, lip tint etc.

  12. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that it changed my life lmao. I had super thick eyebrows as a teen and was bullied relentlessly for them. I waxed them so thin and now they do not grow. I got them done I think 3 years ago now and it’s made me SO much more confident. They are super natural and you can not tell they are microbladed. Best decision ever.

  13. I had mine done a couple of years ago. I have quite fair coloured eyebrows and had plucked my tails too often and too short.

After the first treatment, I was super happy with the results. The problem was that I needed a top up in no time. It gets more painful each top up you have as you are essentially making tiny cuts into scar tissue and filling it with ink which hurts more the more you keep going over the same areas.

I also had a problem with producing too much lymph fluid which kick starts the healing and scabbing over process but I was producing so much fluid that it was pushing all of the ink out before it could settle so I ended up with areas where it hadn’t taken at all.

I haven’t had a top up for at least two years now and I still have the shadow of the shape made by the microblading. My actual eyebrow hair grew back well so I use the old shadow as a guide to just tint and shape them myself now.

I would advise people to grow their brows out and try getting a professional tint and wax and shape first if you do have enough eyebrow hair there before having the microblading done.
