golden vegetable rice is probably the most UKish rice recipe there is. I just don’t understand why it’s called golden vegetable rice. is it the golden rice variety? doubt it, it’s not mentioned in ingredients. just says long grain rice. also golden rice would be gm food and I know too many disagree with gm food so it couldn’t have gotten popular. also that’s a recent invention with field trials starting in 2004 and I’m sure golden vegetable rice goes way back, I remember eating it in 1992. cos it’s got a bit of carrots? I’d think that’d be included in vegetables, no. tumeric? pilau rice has that and nobody says golden pilau rice.

am I overthinking this? is there actually a history behind “golden” ?

  1. I’m going to have to disagree with your opening comment. I love rice and have never heard or it. Egg fried rice, Biriyani , sushi, paella, risotto?

  2. Isn’t it pretty obvious… the colour?

It’s not pilau rice. Pilau rice has spices and butter added to it.
