Confused/ghosted ?

I (35F) met this guy (42m) about a week ago on a dating app and we hit it off right away. There was an undeniable connection and we revealed so many things about ourselves and he’s expressed numerous times how he really likes me and that he usually never likes anyone. We FaceTimed every day since we first started talking and then I was supposed to come meet him for the first time yesterday. He’s usually the first to reach out and even the last thing he said to me was that he couldn’t wait to kiss and hold me the next day. Well that was supposed to be yesterday and I never heard from him. I texted him twice halfway thru the day…with no response. I’m just really confused. Like why would someone put all this energy and effort into getting to know someone and lead them on to think all the feelings are mutual ? I’m just kinda bummed because everything seemed genuine and then poof. Should I say anything else to him expressing my confusion and disappointment, like what was the point of all that? All i said yesterday was “hey, what’s up?…are you alive ?” Basically. Why do people do this ?
