    Said by someone who sent to offer “help” after myself and my neighbors escaped an arson attack at 4am and obviously looked a bit of a mess.

  5. I’m an immigrant who left a war torn communist country. I’ve had numerous people who have never experienced any of those things tell me how I’m supposed to feel about them.

  6. “Oh, you don’t look autistic. I didn’t know autistic people had children. Did you have a nanny to help you?” Holy shit, but I have never, ever wanted to punch someone in the face more than I did her.

    Said to me (a trained vocalist) by my mother, who cannot carry a tune in a bucket. This was while I was singing along with a friend who played the guitar. I have 5+ years of training & performing experience and was having fun singing with my friend around the campfire, but was not putting in the effort I would for a full-scale performance. It was so brutally condescending but hit on those insecurities just enough that I’ll never forget it :/

  10. I had an ex who was emotionally abusive say “I think you’re confused” if I called him out on his abuse, BS, or lies, or didn’t agree with him. The words themselves and the way he said them just dripping with condescension caused me instant rage.
