  2. I accidentally got on an earlier train from Stockport to Euston and had no problems

  3. Check with the train operator. LNER usually let’s you travel on a different time train if one is cancelled. They also sometimes have arrangements where the ticket is accepted on other operators.

  4. If just the one train is cancelled, then tickets are usually valid for travel on the service (with the same operator) immediately before or after. If disruption is significant then ask a member of staff.

  5. Ask the guard before you get on. They’re usually quite reasonable if you’re not trying to push your luck.

  6. Go to ticket office and they will advise.

I’ve been in similar situation on a London to Bristol train and they just stamped the back of my ticket. Not too sure how it works with E-tickets but am sure they are flexible. You would get refund anyway but better if you can travel to do so.

  7. Normally tickets are automatically valid only on the next train after your cancelled one, by the same train company. But you can ask about travelling earlier – most companies allow it in normal circumstances
