European citizen, completed a kinda useless philosophy masters last year, found a remote job as a copywriter (I write clickbait stories lol) that pays about 20k.

I’m doubting between getting into a masters in Data Science next year or sticking to copywriting/advertising and keep gaining experience. Copywriting is quite comfy but obviously you’ll never get rich out of it and there ain’t that many jobs out there. As for Data Science, I keep hearing that the job market is getting pretty saturated and I don’t really have a quantitative background so idk.

What would y’all do

  1. If you can combine the two then you’ll increase the amount you can charge. You’d need to really get under the skin of data science but there are companies who want high quality content marketing pieces on niche technical topics. People who know something that’s in demand and can also write well are rare.

    Good luck.

  2. If you don’t have a quantitative background, jumping straight into a Data Science masters is not going to be easy. What programming experience do you have? Plenty of free resources for learning to code to tick off first before you even think about another expensive formal qualification.

  3. A real masters in data science will not be easy to complete unless you already have a strong quantitative background. Perhaps you did a quantitative degree before your philosophy masters? In which case you should be fine. If not, I wouldn’t jump into it.
