In my city the demand for pet grooming is huge. Every pet grooming place can book a reservation only a month ahead. So I have some money saved up on the side, so thinking to open one – but not sure where and how to find a pet groomer. I have 0 experience of starting a business, but at least now I have an idea which is definitely solving people’s problem.

Where and how do I start?

  1. Labor will be the plurality expenses of a business, so it would be preferable for you to do the work yourself. Recommend working at a grooming business first so you can learn how to groom, to see how the business is to be run, and to check if you like it enough to make it a career/business. Learn everything from the grooming process to the equipment needed to how to interact with customers to the software/SaaS needed to run that type of business.

  2. State universities and extension schools often offer good resources on how to start a business in terms of the necessary paperwork, etc.

  3. My friend did a dog grooming class at community college, so my first visit advice is take a lesson on that and get to know what you’re investing in. Then once you have a better idea of what you need- products and accessories you will need to wash the dog, then of course where do you want to do it. I’ve seen they have mobile grooming available these days or renting a space where you would be able to have access to water and enough space to wash and groom the dogs also a place for them to wait. I feel there would be a lot of logistics involved, depends how you want to go about doing it

  4. Might look into a mobile grooming station. Probably alot easier to get started and you own your vehicle vs renting a space. I wouldn’t be surprised if the idea is or will be franchised at some point. Like mobile tire change or car detailing.
