Started online dating recently, and honestly, I’m so confused with these different terms and everyone’s definition seem to be different. What are the definitions of each of these to you ? Why do people have to make relationships so complicated….

While you wait for your post to be approved, please make sure that you have read the rules in the sidebar. You can also use the search function to look for questions similar to yours.

If you are new to Reddit or have never commented here before, you will need to spend some time building comment karma on our sub before you will be allowed to make your own posts. If you are using a throwaway account for privacy reasons, you will need to [message the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/datingoverthirty) from your primary account first.

We also have weekly threads for common subjects. If you are looking to vent, share dating tips or spread happy thoughts, we have stickied posts every day where you can just share your wisdom, joy or misery with others!

  2. Everyone has their own slight differences, but I’m too old to care, so here is my personal thoughts on the terms:

    Seeing/dating: same thing

    Exclusive/relationship/bf/gf: same thing

  3. Personally, I think it all bullshit, you’re either together or you’re not BUT… here are the current stages of the dating game:

“The Talking Stage”: the stage where you’ve met someone and you’re keeping in regular contact with them, perhaps planning a date or already going on dates. At this time, people may also be dating/talking to other people.

“The Dating Stage”: you are going out on dates with this person exclusively but no relationship has been established yet.

“Exclusivity/BfGf Stage”: boyfriend/girlfriend status has been clearly established.

  4. It does seem there is no right answer here. I operate under the assumption that we are not exclusive until a conversation is had indicating otherwise. IMO exclusivity simply means neither of us is pursuing anyone else (talking, dating, seeing, anything with romantic or sexual interest)
