So me and my gf are moving into a new 1 bed flat, the flat is alright, but we tried getting the internet beforehand because my gf wfh and they keep canceling our order because it appears in their system that is a business adress. The thing is it used to be a business over there but now the entire building was transformed in apartment flats

  1. Some form of planning permission would have been required to change the building from business use to apartments. If planning permission hasn’t been granted, then using the building as apartments would be a breach of planning control, so not legal.

If planning permission has been granted, it might just be that the internet provider’s (OpenReach?) systems haven’t been updated yet, so they don’t know that the building is now in residential use.

  2. It’s likely that BT haven’t updated their systems for the phone line. I experienced this a few years ago with something similar, can’t remember exactly what was on the line. Raised a complaint with BT which was as helpful as you can imagine. End up shopping around and found a company who just ignored the line check.
