How does one go about learning sports well enough to carry on a conversation or enjoy watching a few games when they have little to no knowledge starting off?

  1. Just start watching. Have a football basics (or whatever sport you chose) article or glossary up so you can reference it when things get confusing.

Or watch with friends. Pick a game they don’t really care about and just ask questions.

Another thing is fantasy sports. You don’t really have to know anything about the sport, but it is a good way to learn the players. And/or skim ESPN/watch Sportscenter.

  2. I’ve played and watched sports since I can remember, but that’s no always an option, so just try to watch games and try to get at least a basic understanding of the game. Any particular sport?

  3. Do NOT learn from ESPN etc

It’s useless and mostly entertainment than analysis

Watch the sport and any time you don’t quite understand something there’s probably a YouTube channel to explain it

  4. Watch with nice people they know and won’t be annoyed with your questions. Ask questions.

  5. YouTube. Look up highlights, rules, full games. The more gameplay you watch, the better you’ll understand.

ESPN & ESPN2 channels always have analysts talking about the most recent news in Sports. Start with SportsCenter and move to talk shows like The Herd with Colin Cowherd, This Just In, Speak for Yourself and when you’re ready First Take with Stephen A.

If you’re looking to learn more about Football and the NFL, watch Redzone with Chris Hansen this upcoming season.

If you’re looking to learn more about NBA, I recommend watching games on TNT.

  6. Listen to a local sports radio station.. You can fake fandom after about 30 minutes
