Ask questions and listen to them then add your opinion then repeat. If the person you’re talking to is interested then they will ask questions too and won’t reply with one word answers. If they’re not then don’t waste your time. Because from my experience people who aren’t interested are just a pain to have a conversation with so it’s better to leave them alone.
I can’t say I’m great at it but after observing friends who are good at it, here is what I think:
1. Ask random questions. Does not have to follow up from what you were talking about. Ask what their favorite movie is or which country would they like to visit if they had the chance.
2. If they ask something, tell them way more than they asked for. Eg. If they just say “wyd?” You can say “nm chillin you?”. Or “catching up with Lucifer and i have a date later today, what about you?” Guess which one is better for a conversation.
3. Feel free to send memes, news articles, other stuff that is interesting and could open conversation.
4. Humor and absurdity are always fun.
I don’t think texting for hours on end without putting your phone down is healthy — or something you want to strive for.
But really a conversation that goes back and forth through out the day would only last a few minutes at most being spoken, so don’t worry about having enough relevant material for hours.
Even still if you find something you are really interested in, it’s easy to talk and explore throughout the subject with other likeminded people.
…Much like this sub actually.
You seem to have no issues going back and forth with Reddit users through comments and posts, so you should be good to chat with friends. You just need to find a common interest.
Wanna practice by dm me? Just to talk random shit that comes to mind.
