I’m trying to get into the habit of actively listening and curiously asking questions to have conversations with people. I had a new colleague start yesterday, and knowing nothing about her I struggled to ask her questions to start or continue a conversation.

Do you have any foolproof or good questions you could ask almost anyone to start or continue a conversation?

  1. I don’t have anything to add but I’m sure there’s no “foolproof” method. Reality is uncertain.

  2. I think literally anything not completely taboo is a good start. You could:

    1. Ask about something you’re genuinely curious about
    2. Share something about yourself that could be relatable

I am not good at this and 80% of the time I am awkward as sin and just don’t say anything. But I think that’s okay, too.
