Title says it all, I know that Queen’s definitely more favorable here now in recent years compared to when Freddie was still alive (sadly). This feels like a common question so let me ask in more detail, what’s the consensus on Queen’s LATER music here now in contrast to the music they were making before 1981. I know for certain I’m a fan of albums/tracks from A Kind of Magic, The Miracle and Made In Heaven myself but I guess the norm is that you either like stuff from fat bottomed girls to another one bites the dust.

  1. Legendary songwriters even to this day. Freddie Mercury is still considered one of the greatest singers of all time.

  2. I’m a fan, I would think most people I know would be at least casual fans. A Kind of Magic is one of the few soundtracks I own, but I’m a big fan of Highlander so that tracks.

  3. I had no idea who they were till I saw bohemian rhapsody lol. Love them now. I love how they embraced a lot of Motown stuff too

  4. Generally positive. I don’t know how many people could discuss their discography in depth but if you’re going from more of a greatest hits type angle people love them.

My personal favorite remains Don’t Stop Me Now

  5. They are rock legends, surpassed only by The Beatles. I never personally really considered Queen to go through any sort of phases before Freddie Mercury’s death. They just sorta found a niche after a few years and fine tuned their work. Their music always seemed to be borderline experimental or off-genre to me starting around the mid 70s, and that continued up until the end. Freddie even did an operatic duet in his solo career a few months before he died.

Every album from the 70s onward is an auditory masterpiece to me. Hell, *Innuendo* is my favorite album, period. I love their later work, possibly more so than the early stuff.

  6. Can’t deny that Freddie Mercury was talented, but I have never been a fan of Queen.

  7. They’re great! Freddie Mercury was awesome and made me less self-conscious of my gap in my teeth because he was so fabulous and awesome! I loved him, as a child and still do as an adult. I love that they continued on with someone as awesome as Adam Lambert cause he reminded me so much of Freddie. Queen will be legendary forever.

  8. I guess it is a controversial take but, they are highly overrated if you ask me. They made the song “Radio GaGa” which pretty much completely wiped out whatever credit “Bohemian Rhapsody” gave them (only mild sarcasm). And I know it’s not their fault, but “We Will Rock You” will instantly ruin any sporting event for me.

  9. I’ve always preferred their work from the ‘70s over things after ‘81 but I’d still listen to ‘80s Queen

It’s just Brian May’s guitar work doesn’t seem as unhinged as it did in the ‘70s. It’s still tasteful but ‘70s Queen was a hard rock band and it seems to have went more with a progressive or commercial sound in the ‘80s

  10. Queens music is everywhere from sporting events to weddings to your neighborhood bar.

To that end, everyone here has definitely heard queen songs practically their whole lives but I haven’t really known anyone who is a queen “fan” but then again most of my friend group was born far after Mercury passed.

  11. Great band. Favorite era is the 70s, specifically from first album up to News Of The World.
