A family friend charges £150 a day and I think this is incredibly cheap in todays market but he won’t listen when I say he’s under selling himself as he has many returning customers.

  1. I got that as a newly qualified decorator 15 years ago… should be at least £100 more

  2. Depends how long his day is, on work we had done recently we were lucky to get 6 hours a day effort, it didn’t matter as we were paying for the job not a day rate. The Lads seemed happy and relaxed, as did the boss, struck me as a sensible way to do it.

  3. A guy I use fairly often charges £250 a day. He starts at 8am on the dot, starts to tidy up at 5:30 and is gone by 6pm.
He is a perfectionist, but not slow, and does an amazing job.
I don’t mind paying £250 for a good quality job.

  4. Depends where he’s based and what hours he works. I worked for myself as a joiner, I’m based in the north west and £150-£200 is or was roughly the going rate a year ago when I stopped.

There are a lot of variables but if he’s got regular customers who are easy to work for he’s probably happy charging a bit less for an easier life. I know I would.

  5. When I was a teen I used a paint houses for £50 a room. Seems crazy cheap but I was shit at painting. Pay for what you get. Maybe your friends shit too.

  6. Mine charges £250 a day but…. She only covers school hours so 9-3 but has a second person with her. Decorator does cutting in, edging and helper does all the rollering. Works well for them and I’ve been happy with their work.

  7. I recently had a roughly 10sq/m room done. Three painted walls and one wallpapered.

Think it took him about 4 or 5 hours and he charged £170.

  8. Depends on how long his day is. I knew a painter who only worked for six hour.

But even so that daily rate is OK That’s £750 a week, or at least £3k a month.
