I often read that everyone claims that their mom is the best cook ever, however in my country grandmas are (stereotypically) the real chefs.

  1. We have both sayings here (“like mom made it” or “like grandma made it”).

But in modern times I honestly feel like the more common stereotype is that moms (to some extent), but especially grandmas, often make quite boring food lol. Danish food habits have evolved quite a lot during the last 30, even 20 and 10, years.

  2. Is it? I don’t think there is such a general claim in Germany.

Personally, I always preferred to eat what my mum cooked over eating at my grandma’s place because my mum knew my special wishes much better.

  3. Well, last rigoberta bandini’s song mentioned mom’s homemade soup. And it was a hit.

But I think in Spain we are evenly split, with grandmas winning in the “traditional dish” category , but moms winning in the “confort food” one.

Don’t disrespect my grandma’s croquetas, potaje or arroz con leche!

There is no direct equivalent but the grandma probably wins.

Grandmas are also notorious for forcing their grandchildren to eat enormous quantities of food.

  5. I would say both, my mom learned quite a lot from my grandma and now she passes those recipes on to me. I’ll probably eventually pass on those recipes to my children and so on. I would just say recipes just get passed on through generations, although in my case my dad is a pretty good cook too even though stereotypically dads in general aren’t that well known for their cooking. I also guess grandma is probably the origin of these recipes so I would assume most people’s stereotype is that grandma’s cooking wins.
