I am not completely anti-social. My friends are easy to talk to and I joke with them. However, with my colleagues it’s very different. I prefer to just listen and not participate in conversations. I don’t really like letting too much about me be revealed.
The culture in my work space is quite friendly and I enjoy that. But when we go out for drinks or lunch, I am usually just a passive participant in the conversation.

I wonder if everyone’s starting to notice and if there is any implicit expectation that I contribute to conversations

  1. There’s nothing wrong with continuing to “listen in” at work, or workplace functions. At the same time, no one will want to get to know you better or want to be your friend. So if you’re happy with the status quo you can carry on as you have been.
