He’s an average kid, loves computer games and has started listening to music. Not really into sports. He doesn’t seem fazed by the thought of starting high school. I just hope he doesn’t waste his high school years like I did.
It’s been almost 25 years since I was at school, so I’m not really in touch with how it is now.

  1. Just let your kid find his own path, telling him a dozen do’s and don’ts won’t help, if anything it’ll likely just confuse things.

    Kids who have good home lives tend do do well regardless so just focus on what you can control to reinforce the benefits of good decisions.

    What to do when the bus doesn’t show up etc?

    Apparently pencil cases are so last century and everyone keeps their required pens, pencils, rubbers etc in a blazer pocket.

    Look around you, read posters advertising clubs and such. Try a couple at least.

    They seem to look after them quite well in Y7, meaning y8 is a bit of a shock when they’re meant to organise themselves.

    Make sure you know all their login details for homework and check in every week to see if stuff is missing.
