It’s a spermicide. Says it’s 86% effective which makes me nervous, so I asked about abortions and she said she would if she had to but did not sound happy that the conversation went there. Neither of us want kids till our late 20s or early 30s. She’s 22 and I’m 24.

My ex took the pill and we never had an issue. This stuff is 86% so I’m just curious about others stories.

It’s also highly acidic as it is designed to make the pH lower in there to kill the sperm. Does that sting or burn or feel like anything?

I should add we’re trying it for the first time tonight and we will also be tripping on acid, so if it’s gonna hurt or sting, I want to just put a condom on and not worry about my trippy ass not pulling out in time.

  1. ofc she isn’t thrilled by the idea of abortion, whatever her personal views it is still a medical thing, and a lot of people would not be happy with her if she did, and they wouldn’t be afraid to let her know.

Plus if you aren’t going to be sober, then how can you expect to use any for of in-the-moment contraceptive perfectly? Use spermacide to be sure, but yes, do also use condom and pull out. 14% is too damn high if you don’t want kids.

  2. Similar to other birth control, it can be more effective but human error exists, especially if taking substances. But you can use condoms with spermacide/phexxi if you want to be extra cautious.
I’ve really liked using phexxi, especially over other spermacide. But definitely have noticed it can be uncomfortable if she isn’t ready or wet enough, the citric acid plus friction isn’t fun!

  3. Ahhh, it’s not a pill. It should not be taken orally. Eta: Ah, sorry, misread that it was you ex who was on the pill.

It’s less than 86% – more like 72%, basically used as spermicide alone. Good to have a conversation about abortion, but yeah. Probably best to look at some other more effective methods. /r/birthcontrol
