Me 19f and my 21m partner are thinking about copper IUD but we aren’t sure about it yet. We were wondering about your experience with it and what are your thoughts in general.

  1. I have a copper IUD and at first it was painful during sex, but over a month or so my body became used to it and it’s fine.. would recommend!

  2. I had one for about five years and everything about it was traumatic. Getting it placed and taken out were excruciating and I bled. My periods were a nightmare afterwards. I didn’t get pregnant though! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)

  3. The copper IUD for me is purely to not get pregnant. It doesn’t help your periods at all, it makes it worst (heavier bleeding and cramping) but it you can hold through for a few months it starts to get better so…if you don’t want a hormonal one then go for it!

  4. You should check out R/birthcontrol if you haven’t yet, they’ll have tons of information and reviews already ready to go!

I had nexplanon and switched to paraguard. I absolutely love it and would never do anything different unless I was to get my tubes tied. I stopped gaining weight, my emotional regulation is balanced, and it lasts so long.

Now onto the negative: getting it installed was a nightmare, it hurt so badly I couldn’t function the rest of the day. The next day I was sore, but fine. The next week I was perfectly fine and ready to go. Also it will probably make your period worse. I had a crazy light infrequent period. Now I have a five day cycle monthly, with no real issues. If you have a heavy period I don’t recommend this for you.

Overall, I’m super happy with it and would absolutely recommend it to anyone without a heavy period currently.

  5. It was awful for me. I have literal trauma from the insertion. I’ve broken a bone and it was 10x worse. Now I can’t go to the gyno without taking a Xanax first. I started getting yeast infections regularly which I had never had before. It made certain sex positions painful and made my periods so heavy that I’m now getting treatment for anemia because my body can’t replace the blood fast enough.

  6. I took it out after 2 months. Couldn’t handle the insane menstrual cramps and super heavy periods.
