How do you know you are actually good at something?

  1. You set yourself targets and see if you can achieve them, then incrementally up those goals. You can get an idea of targets based on other people’s performance but for most things you’ll probably get a better sense once you’re into it. Even for subjective things like art, you could set targets like committing to sketching once a day, or saying you’ll complete 3 online art tutorials this month.

You can also ask for honest, critical feedback from people who know what they’re talking about. This might mean reaching out to other hobbyists, finding a mentor or identifying that critical friend.
