At my job, I have a colleague from another sector that I just chat with and exchange a few words every day. I wanted to start talking to her, but I find that impossible because I don’t know what to talk to her about other than superficial things about work. I don’t know how to talk about more personal things…

But I’m interested in her. But I don’t know if she’s single. I was thinking of writing a note asking for her phone number and saying “if you have a boyfriend, never mind”. Should I do this?

  1. Probably not a good idea.

Just keep chatting and start asking a little about her, and mention some things about yourself. See how willing she is to talk. If she will talk and seems friendly you can find out a little about what she likes to do, and then ask her out to something related. Remember, asking her out is not a big step, it is just a first way to test her potential interest.
