I’ve been relentlessly on the hunt for a shared apartment to rent in Manchester and have struggled to find one as most of them require employment. The issue is I’d be graduating this fall and relocating to Manchester to look for a job, but I need a place to live that doesn’t require you to be a professional right off the bat.

I’m not picky about the area anymore either as long as it’s a fairly safe and happening part with proper transport lines to the central. Has anyone been in a similar position, or have any advice as to what I could do? Ps. I’m still fairly new to the UK, hence reaching out on here.

  1. Hard one. You likely need a credit check and proof of employment before u can move in.. unless you can afford to pay a year upfront..

Focus in the job hunt and then the house ?

  2. I’d start trying to apply for jobs ASAP even if you’re not yet based in Manchester (being clear about when you can start) and maybe if you can put up with a hostel stay in a dorm for a little bit while you continue to job hunt, and then start looking for an apartment.

  3. It might be worth offering to pay 6 months rent in advance if possible. I can’t imagine many people would want to take the risk of renting to someone with no job, as if you aren’t successful in finding one right away then it’s more likely for you to end up in arrears.
