I noticed that anytime I decide to hang out with a friend, I have to find a reason to do so. For example, I want to be a filmmaker, so usually I’ll ask if they want to make a short film or something like that, but it’s almost always an excuse to hang out with them. But outside of that, I never hang out with them. Unless I can come up with a specific purpose to us hanging out, I just don’t even bother. Is this normal among people? I feel like I’m wasting their time if there isn’t a point to us being in contact with one another. And it’s not like they imply that or anything, they always want to hang out when I ask. I just want to know if this is like a social anxiety thing, and if so, how else I can ask to hang out (and also what I’m supposed to do if I didn’t come up with the arbitrary reason).
