What is something that you would buy now that you never thought you’d buy when you were younger?

  1. Kale and crickets. Kale for my tortoise and crickets for my tarantulas. Also two pets I never imagined I’d have.

  2. Nail polish. I was a chronic nail biter until I quit when I was 18 and my nails have become one of my favourite features after they grew long and strong. I usually just wear black but I like the occasional ring finger nail painted in silver or iridescent purple-green.

  3. Alcohol

Hated how it tasted when I was younger, now as an adult I love going out and drinking with friends.

  4. A kayak. I stopped after my practice partner took his own life when we were early teens.
I’m now 36 and have rediscovered that the water truly is my happy place.

  5. My parents were hugely anti-makeup, anti-fashion, etc. They were engineers, and I think they both had a (misogynistic) “not like other women/men” mentality. I was raised like that too.

I’m now interested in all of those things, even though I’m an engineer like them. My dad still hates that I get my hair bleached. C’est la vie.
