Is it a bad idea to join more than one sports team?

I’ve moved to a new country on my own and I’m single so my social life is not as fulfilling as I’d like and I’m still trying to recover from the unhealthy habits of lock down, sometimes the isolation makes me actually quite sad.

I’ve joined a Water Polo team to get some exercise and meet new people but so far I’m finding that there isn’t really much of a social element to the club. For example In 3 months we’ve met once outside of practice and we are also off season currently.

I’m considering also joining a local rugby team, I’ve played this sport before and I enjoy rugby and from my past experiences and looking at the socials of the local club there is a very welcoming and friendly vibe with a good mix of sport and fun.

I guess I’m trying to realise if doing 2x training sessions a week for Water Polo and 1x Rugby is a bad idea? I’m in my 30’s so not a spring chicken haha but also what would the clubs think?

I actually love swimming so I don’t want to stop polo but as well as getting fit and playing a team sport I do wish to make social connections as well and that is an important part of the club experience to me.

Any advice?

  1. No but to piggyback of your predicament ive never played sports before, the adult sports team website near me is dead, I was kinda interested in badmiton but most were or private and i would need to take classes I think with kids for another or something like that and the meetups are generally inactive. All excuses as to why I dont try.
