I’m 14, 15 next April, and of course there’s lots of thing I want to do. For example, I recently got accepted into a football team that has pathways to become pro when I get older, however 30 weeks of training costs £260 and with the cost of living rising, my family obviously cant afford that

I’ve tried babysitting and dog walking (promoting on Facebook) but both were unsuccessful and no one reached out. I also tried looking for a Saturday girl job on Facebook but I couldn’t find any. Our street also isn’t the type of street that will pay people to do small bits and bobs so I don’t really know what to do. I’ve asked my family members to look around and ask if they know anyone but my parents, despite not being able to afford to pay for stuff id like, are pretty stubborn about getting a job. Edit: ive also applied for paper round but theres none available near me!

  1. Paper round. And check out what the laws are around under-16s working in your local authority.

  2. Go to any pubs near by and ask if they have any vacancies for front of house/potwashing. (Take a CV with you)

  3. Best way to get work in my experience has been to ask people I know for an in. That’s how I got all of my jobs pretty much. Try asking any friends or family who are working if their employers have any part time jobs availble for a younger person.

  4. Ask your family if you could sell some of your stuff on eBay or on Facebook marketplace

  5. If you’re in a town, I would start by going to the nearest parade of shops and asking at the shops whether they have any part time slots available. It’s best if the shops are places which your parents know, as they could know whether any places are dodgy or suspicious. If you do find something, make sure you know your pay rate, exactly what kind of work you would be expected to do and your hours, and discuss it with your parents before accepting.

Alternatively, you could ask your parents if they could advertise your services at their workplaces.

  6. I remember being your age and trying to legally make money as my family were poor drug addicts.

Nobody ever even took my CV.

So I resorted to selling drugs instead, and contrary to popular belief, crime does pay.

  7. At 14, any team/club asking you to pay for training is at it. There are plenty teams/clubs out there that are free or at the very least have a tiny personal contribution, something doesn’t add up.
