I have a house I don’t even live in I live with my elderly father at his house. I’m thinking about renting out just a room in it for $300 a month. I’d make it clear that I’m not in the house much which is true. Id prefer to rent to a woman maybe something could come from it or one of her friends. If I rent to a guy maybe he could end up being a good friend or maybe I could meet people or women through him. I want some input on my reasoning here. I don’t really need the money. Sure it’d be nice but what I really want is to increase my friend group. All opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Your tenant might interpret you trying to insert yourself into their social life as harassment.

That could soil your reputation in the area you live. It might also lead to legal trouble.

You are likely to get better results from volunteering, going to meetups, joining clubs, and taking classes.

  2. I would be willing to bet the people you find that want to rent your room aren’t the type you would want to be friends with. The type of people you want to be friends with can probably afford more than that. I would rent the room for the extra money and if you become friends, then great.
