Hello AskMen!

Pretty much the title. I sweat when I sleep – doesn’t matter the temperature of the house, how many layers of clothing I have on (if any) or how many fans I have blasting on me – I will ALWAYS turn into a human furnace and overheat and begin to sweat.

I’m not over weight, I exercise regularly and eat relatively healthy.

How do you deal with this?

  1. I usually kick a leg over to help cool air get under the covers and try and rotate my pillow to keep it cool

  2. I am a human furnace too, now I have ac and no problem anymore, but it is not the temperature that helps you, try managing the humidity level, keep it reasonably low and you won’t get sticky anymore!

  3. Look into different sheets. There are some that can definitely make it better.

Also do you have one of the plastic mattress protectors under the sheet? One of those really causes the sweat to pour out for me

  4. Do you drink alcohol most evenings? I forget the reason why but I know that can cause it.

  5. Sweat isn’t magic… if you’re not sweating in ambient temperatures while living your life outside of bed, there’s got to be something in your bed that’s causing it.

Try changing your mattress, pillow, and sheets. Try sleeping without a comforter or with a box fan pointed at you.

If none of that works, tbh ask your doctor about it during your next physical.

  6. I’ve noticed I don’t deal with it as well unless I specifically get out of the bed. I have to physically remove myself, whether by taking a restroom break, getting a cup of water, etc

  7. I tend to get really bad night sweats if I’ve had a long night of drinking. I did my best to drink tons of water before bed, shower to regulate my temperature and even sleep naked but the sweats kept coming.

If your sweats are consistent (or have a trigger you’ve figured out), it helps to lay a towel under you and sleep on that.

Having a fan close to you and on during the night may also help – if you start to sweat, the fan will cool you down quick and that seems to stop my sweats from soaking my sheets. At the very least, it’ll wake you up so you can shower and try sleeping in fresher clothes and being more comfortable.

  8. I have to use a box fan pointing at my legs. This has been a big issue in my marriage as my wife constantly complains about being cold. I’m about ready for separate rooms.

  9. Have you had a doctor’s appointment lately? Because night sweats can be indicative of many illnesses.

  10. Night sweats can be a symptom of an illness, I would speak with your Primary Care Physician. Lymphoma, infection, heart issue etc

  11. I’m the same way. I found that drinking a ton of water throughout the day helps a lot and my body can regulate my temperature much better at night. Also memory foam really just soaks up the heat and shoots it right back at you once it’s full. I got a cooling mattress and it helps a lot too

  12. It’s pricey but look this up on Amazon. Looks like it has lots of good reviews. Basically a cooling fan system that blows under your sheets and comforter.
