What did you choose to do at your wedding that made family members upset?

  1. For some of them, marry a white guy. I’m sure some of my husband’s family weren’t thrilled about him marrying a black woman, either.

  2. My husband deciding his color was camouflage. It was very tastefully done. He and his groomsmen wore vests from a local bridal shop that actually came in that with traditional black jackets and pants. You can see it in the pictures but it didn’t look gaudy.

Multiple members of my family had an absolute shit fit that “it will clash with your color” and “that’s going to look terrible”. I simply told them “this is who he is, and it’s his wedding too”.

  3. When I was getting married you were legally obliged to have a statement read that stated that marriage was a union between a man and a woman. We had the celebrant read an additional statement basically saying that we disagreed (as was common at the time). That did upset one or two of my more bigoted relatives.

  4. Had it at a court house and didn’t tell them until after. (I still stand by this decision)

  5. Decided to have our wedding at my in-law’s home instead of my grandparents home. Despite being gorgeous, the layout was just not going to work at my grandparent’s.
