Yet if I just make a coffee, have a shower etc it won’t go up much more than that until I go to bed again. I don’t know what uses 60p from midnight to 6am but may only go up another 30p for the remaining 6am until midnight, especially if I’m out all day and don’t get home until late.

Surely if it was my fridge, freezer, tv on standby it would be more than double by bedtime even without using any other electricals?

  1. Daily standing charge plus fridge and Wi-Fi if plugged in. Anything else on standby would add on too.

  2. It’s been driving me mad. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a standing charge. Thanks very much

  3. There was a list of things in a news feed I was reading.

The most surprising was the microwave clock.

Wi fi for sure takes a bit, probably any smart tvs and things that are connected would be best to be unplugged.
Those timer plugs are supposed to be good at saving a few beans as well

  4. I am exactly the same but gas is zero. Does this not have a standing charge too?

  5. I still don’t understand mine tbh, just looked now and electric is on 4p and gas 0p but we have things on (TV, lamp, light upstairs, fan, WiFi, fridge etc) so don’t really know how it’s so low

  6. As others have said, it’s standing charge.
What I don’t get it why the standing charge has sky rocketed as well as the price of gas/electric per unit.
