Who said “We’d get on like a house on fire. Preferably his”?

I heard this quote once and it randomly popped into my head recently. Can’t work out who said it though. I feel like it was an old humourist like Spike Milligan but I can’t dig up anything other than a couple people on message boards that have quoted it without the source.

My life won’t be really negatively affected if I *don’t* figure it out, but if anyone can easily remember then please let me know!
