If you mean pain, perhaps he’s a masochist.
Maybe when he equates it with fulfilling a duty. Unless you’re talking about sexual enjoyment, which is something else.

We’re (well, most of us) just physically attracted to women. We just have to deal with the suffering if we want to have sex and/or relationships.

You cant grow without suffering, but it’s when you get to a point in life where you’re main focus is self improvement that the results that you acquire from the suffering makes you curious about how far you can go and when you get to that point you’re idea of suffering changes and there’s no lookin back
