How do you interpret the phrase “love is a choice” and do you think it’s been overused/misused?

  1. i think it’s very true. after the first year or so, the honeymoon phase is just gone in most cases. you’ll be annoyed by your partner, you’ve seen their worse sides… it’s just not all pretty and easy and livey dovey anymore. it’s a choice to stick around.

loving someone isn’t enough for a relationship.

  2. As a queer person especially, I dislike that idea. I think love isn’t a choice, it’s a feeling that happens out of your control.

Like if you don’t click with somebody, you don’t “choose” to love them and try to force a relationship. It’s healthier for both of you to recognize incompatibility and end the relationship.

  3. It should be “a healthy relationship is choosing the other person over and over again, every day, despite the challenges”. I think love changes and evolves and even waxes and wanes over long-term relationships.
