What is your opinion on designer dupes?

  1. Fair game , if you make things too expensive for the majority of people just because of a logo , why not..

  2. I don’t buy designer stuff because of the ridiculous prices, so I could absolutely get a dupe if I like the design of it. It’s ultra cringe to try and pass it as the real thing, though, but if you just like the look of it and cant or don’t wanna splurge, go for it.

  3. I’m all for it. It’s supposedly super trendy right now to have a fake that can fool keen eyes. I can’t fathom paying what I’d pay in a mortgage or rent for a month on an accessory. If you have the money, then sure, go for it.

My mom is going to Asia next week. I sent her some photos so she could find some dupes for me. I’m hoping she pulls through.

  4. No real opinion on people who buy them. Somewhat negative opinion of people who make/sell them. Knockoffs flourish largely because the intellectual property laws and copyright don’t apply to a lot of those kinds of items in the same way, so it’s difficult for creators to maintain the intellectual property of their creations. A lot of small designers often have their designs ripped off by larger companies that make knockoff versions, so it can be a serious issue for those designers.

  5. I own some mid tier designer stuff but when it comes to the big boiz I don’t care if it’s been duped. Half the time anything that starts trending is a dupe of something designer without me even realizing anyways, like how every comfy sandal is now a rip off of the Yeezy slide

  6. Normalize them, please! I want one of those little Vivienne Westwood renaissance painting heart purses but I can’t justify spending $2000 on a tiny bag

  7. I always wanted an LV bag when I was a teenager, the time they were about £700-£1k and I always said when I’m financially comfortable I’d buy myself one. Roll onto being financially comfortable, and they’re now £1.5-£2k.
I can buy a really good replica for about £100. I’ll buy a replica.

  8. I don’t own any dupes and have never touched one so I have no real opinion on the product. I don’t have a problem with people owning one because they like the look of the original, just don’t try to pass it off as the real thing.

  9. I don’t like it. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. I personally don’t have any designs bags that cost more then $450. I know people who have them and it looks so fake to me. Like girl I know you and a high ass interest rate on you 2013 Honda, don’t act like you have a $2,500 hand bag. Imagine if people got dips god everything, like a car, and the up a Mercedes emblem over a Toyota one

  10. Seems kinda silly and pointless to me. Designer stuff is overpriced just for the label, the dupes feel like people trying to pretend like they can waste money. And the dupes quality is always worse than just regular stuff in the same price range.

Just buy smaller brands that are cool looking and quality made.

  11. Lots of great designs at every price point. Support a local designer or purchase second hand.

Ripping off someone’s work is poor form. No doubt there will always be designer inspired products but purchasing direct copies supports a negative approach to IP.

Just because the real deal is expensive isn’t a good enough excuse to buy a fake, just buy something great that’s in your budget. Designers are people too, they deserve to have their work respected.
