Let me give some backstory.
Today we were running the mile. My partner ran first. At around the third lap the teacher said my name. I went up to her and my friend was crying. She said “can you take her up to the nurses office?” And I replied “of course”. I thought my friend had an asthma attack. About 30 seconds in I ask her “what’s wrong?” She replies with “someone had a bloody nose and my dad had one when he died.” I had no idea what to say, I just said “oh,”. I thought about saying a bunch of things but didn’t know the right thing to say. I drop her off at the front office and walk back. I couldn’t even jog. It was just so sad. Did I say the right thing? I have no idea how to comfort people. Her dad probably died around 6 months ago.

  1. Well….it wasnt a bad response. Once things happened its easy to think of other stuff you could have said, but at the moment you were caught off guard and surprised, its normal to not know what to say in sittuatiosn like that.
