i’m in a capetown trip right now and recently i matched with a guy on tinder with whom i could really connect with (at least from what i can judge from texts and voicenotes). seems like we both are on the same page when it comes to expectations of what this could be. the thing is he asked if we could watch a movie at my airbnb since he gets really anxious in public bc loud noises or lights that are too bright, the sound of cars or coffee machines easily interrupts his train of thought. he explained that this is because he is in the autism spectrum.

but i still am a 25 year old woman travelling alone. my airbnb host lives upstairs and it embarrasses me a little to have to tell this very kind man that i’m planning to have a date here and if he could check on me just in case anything happens.

am i overthinking this? my intuition tells me my date is actually a good guy but with men you never really know i suppose.

  1. You’re not overthinking. Can you not meet somewhere else on your first date? It’s a little sketchy to have a date at someone’s place (even if it’s an Airbnb) on a first date.

But if you decide to, tell the Airbnb host to stop by some time that is during your date. Safety first!
