And what state/area are you in it you don’t have flair? A friend told me that it’s uncommon and some what isolated to nova culture, but I find that kinda hard to believe.

  1. Its not uncommon around here. Some of the breweries/vineyards is explicitly family friendly. The one closest to me has a playground.

E: well fuck, should have read the body more closely.

  2. That’s not a scene I’m in much of, but seeing a kid at a brewery is still totally normal in my experience.

  3. It’s not permitted in many places.

And for others, they don’t want the optics of encouraging kids. We have very strict rules about anything that could be seen as advertising youth to drink.

  4. Our daughter is almost 24 and we never did. If it was a place that served alcohol and food that is different but we never took her to a place specializing in wine or beer. Her Dad and I aren’t big drinkers so that is part of it plus we both grew up around adults who drank to excess. No little kid needs to see that.

  5. Pretty common in my area up until dark to see kids at breweries and bars with outside areas.

  6. It’s normal. I’ve been to lots of vineyards and breweries and you regularly see kids there.

  7. Yeah it’s not uncommon here, a lot of places have food and encourage people to bring their families. Hell there’s a brewery near that has a playground.

Definitely more of an afternoon thing though.

  8. As someone in Sonoma County, this really depends on if there is food served. If there isn’t it is generally not allowed. If there is, it is pretty common.

  9. The vineyard and winery that I go to most often encourages families to be there. I don’t have kids but I see lots of families with children on the grassy areas and playing games that are provided. They just aren’t allowed in the actual tasting room.

  10. Some breweries are family friendly. In Washington state there’s a weird loophole about age restriction and being inside of a tap room.

This is different than brewpubs with dining area and a separate bar seating area that is usually 21+

  11. The brewery right down the street from me has a playground. I haven’t been yet, but I’ll probably take my daughter one day

  12. Many breweries are family-friendly environments. I used to be a regular at a few in the Raleigh NC area (Gizmo, Oak City, Compass Rose) that had picnic tables, games, food trucks, play areas, musicians, movie nights, etc. Some of them were a little TOO kid-friendly and I’d avoid them on weekends because they’d turn into romper rooms and parents did a bad job of supervising their little minions.

  13. Yes. VA/MD but also in lots of other parts of the country like Colorado and Georgia and California. Most of the places I’ve been, especially breweries, have tons of kids stuff.

  14. The one I go to near my place upstate doesn’t allow kids and only allows dogs, so it’s common enough that they had to make a rule about it.

  15. Yes, most of the breweries and wineries around here are very family friendly. They’ll have outdoor areas with games like corn hole or giant jenga

  16. Yup.

But only for lunch or early dinner.

I will not be the person there with a kid in a brewery at 9pm on a Friday.
