(I’m using fake names) I (14F) just started dating my boyfriend James(16M) a while ago and today he told me in a very lengthy text that he used to really like my best friend Chloe (14F) since we all met and up until not long before we started dating. I don’t want to break up with him over this and I’ve already talked to Chloe about this situation (she had no idea he liked her) but I’ve felt sick to my stomach thinking about it since he’s told me.

2. he did not want to confuse his feelings for your friend, with his feelings for you, so saw the need to break from her
3. your friend still has you, and you could not both date him
4. should you break up with him, he’ll likely return to your friend
5. he ought not have told you, as your friend did not even know of his interest; the only reason imo for telling you would have been the likelihood of you and your friend discussing him in terms of his liking both of you
