I have a bad habit of looking at literally everyone around me, I’ve always done this and used to get scolded as a kid a lot for staring. I don’t look at random people for long periods of time now but I do still glance at everyone I pass. Occasionally I zone out thinking about other things while looking at someone and then I feel bad for “staring”.

Every now and then, someone will look at me back. Usually I just look away really quickly on reflex. Would it be better if I smiled at them? I don’t want to be creepy, although I realize I probably already am by looking at everyone. It’s something I’m working on.

  1. Cheeky smile never hurts , Lazy lil wave or a peace sign, I’m a really uh observant person so I happen to catch peoples gaze quite a bit when I’m just casually looking around
But like how do you not look at people , they’re everywhere 😂

  2. In general people would consider it rude to stare, but I think you got that already 😉

What you can do when someone catches your stare, look slightly past them like you were looking at something else. Or as someone else suggested do a small wave or smile. Maybe you can look around you more at other things more further away, as a substitute for glancing at people you pass.

I consider myself observant as well but I don’t have the same challenge. Sometimes when I pass people on the street and they have a welcome/open attitude they/I will say hello and hello back. I can sense this from a distance somehow, hard to explain. So it’s not that you can not look at people or something. By far most of the people are not like this and more reserved. Hope this makes sense.
