22. I worked in one company just doing physical jobs every summer. One summer they were short staffed and gave me the position of packaging and labels inspector for three months. I had the authority to make people work much longer than they wanted (working hours depending on how much work was done, they weren’t strictly implemented), to make people lose 5%-15% of their monthly salary if they lost or damaged packages or boxes, and to make people wait for hours before they could continue working just because their paperwork wasn’t properly handled. Didn’t really feel powerful but workers showed me respect I never saw before. Power is a fascinating thing.

23. In my country, the government leases vehicles from dealers. I was a quality controller at a dealership and would often road test police & military vehicles. The respect that you get on the road is insane. Like Moses parting the red sea.
